Dismal Town fell to their second home defeat in a week as Barnsley left Portman Road with a comfortable 3-1 victory. The Tykes were 2-0 in front at the break through Goran Lovre and a Márton Fülöp own goal, then Garry O’Connor made it three before Tommy Smith pulled a late goal back for the Blues.

Jason Scotland’s second strike for Town and an Adam Matthews own goal saw the Blues to a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City and into second place in the Championship. After a slow start Town, who were denied what looked like a certain penalty when Wickham was felled in the first half, went ahead after the break when Matthews headed past his own keeper, Scotland sealing the victory with 16 minutes remaining.

Boss Roy Keane was delighted for Connor Wickham as the striker netted his first league goal to win the Blues three points against Scunthorpe. The 16-year-old became the Blues’ second youngest scorer after Jason Dozzell.
